STOCKHOLM

After I successfully reached the apartment where I was accommodated during a visit to Stockholm, my mentor Lotta Ahlvar sent me a message »Enjoy, now you're on the hunting ground of King of Sweden – The Royal Djurgården. Looks like you're in the countryside, except you are in the center of Stockholm.« Lotta is director of »Friends Of Handicraft« (Handarbetets Vänner) – one of the oldest and most prominent institution for textiles and handwork in Sweden. Workshops, schools, Lyceum and galleries are situated in one large building across the Skansen, the amusement park, and next to the Abba Museum... and much more interesting Vasa and Nordic Museum. With my bike I have easily visited whole Djurgården and historic buildings… [1] [2] [3] Plates on the school and Lyceum buildings are handwritten [5] [6], and someone was playing with the letters in the gallery window [4].

The Skansen is open-air museum with replicas of houses from five centuries old history of Sweden. The typical inscriptions from different periods could be found there. I was incredibly delighted by inscription that reads OFFICINA TYPOGRAPHICA on one of the houses. [8] [9] [10] [11]

Gamla Stan is the oldest part of town where handlettered house numbers can be seen [12], and in Södermalm - a hipster place, interesting shop logos as well [14]. There is also a 180-year-old silk factory. Disbanded in the middle of the last century, it was closed and locked. When it was opened years later, everything was in its place, preserved and functional. It is a museum now. [2/1] [2/2]

Technical Museum has a permanent collection of 100 inventions that made our lives easier, but my attention was caught by some interesting drugs boxes [2/3] [2/4] a camera [2/5] and the letters from an optician shop for sight testing [2 / 6]. Nordic Museum has a huge collection of everyday objects being in use during their long history of [2/7], and thematic exhibition - in August 2015, was dedicated to sugar [2/8] [2/9] [ 2/10] [2/11]. To end this story, I add a few works from the Museum of Modern Art. [2/12], [2/13], [2/14]
