PAKET
author: Marko Marinković
Display font, basically intended to designers. Rectangle, corner-rounded forms which parts are building all the characters. This is the most simple way to describe Paket, the font family, Cyrillic and Latin in two weights: normal and bold.
I started to work with Cyrillic one! Simply, I wanted to have a better choice when roll-down font menu, for filling my font library. Also, my attention was to create letters by combining and experimenting with straight, sharp lines, slightly rounded at corners. That gives contemporary look to all letters, but steel keeps the “Cyrillic spirit”.
Working on Cyrillic typeface is always pleasure and great challenge! Maybe just because it is very convenient for upgrading. If Latin letters logic is applied on particular Cyrillic's as ћ, ђ, ж, ц, џ (etc.), the interesting results may be also dramatically improper. The horizontal line on ћ and ђ is often too low (there is no such letters in Russian Cyrillic, so it is necessary to learn well their form and proportion), letter ж is often seen as mirrored к, style of z is always a bit hard to modulate… Correcting this problems is what I call: “charm of creating our national letter”.
Name Paket (Package) came partially because of it's rectangular shape which is giving it a modern outfit, and because it reminds me on printed labels on packages (or, at least, I can imagine it printed on package box). It appears very useful for headings, titles, but also not too rough for text. The curve on л or к, for instance, is slight nearly as in hand-writing. Combining this type of curves with straights, result in interesting rhythm which differs this typeface from others similar. Normal looks easy whereas bold seams stronger, according to what designers may need dealing with posters and billboards.
Font is awarded in open competition Write in Cyrillic in 2005.
