IMPRESSIONS FROM A VOYAGE

Venice
Everyone’s familiar with contours of Venice, it’s architecture, squares and churches. A walk around the streets of Venice offers countless visual sensations. The most popular brands inhabited old buildings. Nothing unusual according to the number of tourists. Real pleasure are, in fact, shops where, for example, pens, maps, hand made folders and bookmarkers or traditionally made printings are sold – they are true souvenirs. Pictures 1 and 2 are only part of things you can see: discreete writing above a charming restaurant on a canal, or Ferrari sign between sign-posts to Rialto bridge or St.Marco’s square. When you come to Venice, don’t miss the book The secret Venice of Corto Maltese, the original guide through Venice and Maltese’s adventures.

Milano
In Milano one can also see sign-posts in different designs – from the old one carved in stone (picture 3), or elegant gold coloured writings above shop windows in Vittorio Emanuele passage, with respect for authentic fonts of each brand (picture 4), to simple design of pictograms on garbage containers (picture 6).

Tossa de mar
Charming Catalan town by the sea has numerous very sweet ambients. Speaking of typography, there’s nothing modern: sign-posts are presented on few connected ceramic tiles (local authentic material) – pictures 7,8 and 9. This small place has fully kept its architectural character and is worth visiting. Don’t miss the ice-cream!

Barcelona
Typography of Barcelona is as various as its architecture. The Guell park offers writings on ceramic tiles (picture 2/1), which is similar with park’s design. Writings in Spanish village are also made in vernacular character, on ceramic tiles (picture 2/3). The most interesting writings, architectural and artistic forms one can see on the promenade buy the beach, rich with public art, small restaurants (picture 11) and, of course, planty of mediteranian sun. Explore this city yourself, be your own guide. You’ll be surprised with number of drawings on facades, unexpected paintings and mosaics on pavements, pantomimes, and don’t you miss Gaudi’s works, Montjuic hill, coffee in Zurich café, and the beautiful Civic park!
